Fusing festival vibes with an eclectic creative programme and private island seclusion, Obonjan launched in August 2016 for the first summer season of what will be a unique 45-year project. Untouched for ten years and once known as the ‘island of youth’, Obonjan opens its shores to visitors each summer, for a season of arts and culture, music and entertainment, food and wellbeing.
The 136-acre pine and olive tree-covered island is located 6km off the coast of Sibenik, surrounded by the crystal clear waters of the Adriatic Sea. Islanders stay in eco-chic accommodation, ranging from custom bell tents to luxurious forest lodges, with luxe linens, super comfy beds, air conditioning and Wi-Fi.
Musicians from around the world curate the soundtrack to the summer; live bands host intimate gigs by the sea; weekly headliners host larger parties in a vast stone amphitheatre and atmospheric Forest Bar. Workshops by global thought leaders focus on a diverse array of subjects, ensuring all guests can learn and enjoy. The island’s open-air cinema screens blockbusters, global arthouse films and cult classics alike with immersive cinema events.
Health and happiness are at the heart of Obonjan, with restorative yoga and fitness classes taking place by the harbour as the sun rises, and amidst the dappled shade of the forest. Expert practitioners at the Zen Den offer pampering massage therapies, meditation sessions and energy healing, whilst The Green Bar provides healthy elixirs and goodness on tap.
The island’s extensive gastronomic offering focuses on delivering locally-sourced and sustainable produce, with menus featuring an abundance of fresh seafood, organic vegetables, herbs and spices. Global cuisine is celebrated across five island eateries, ranging from authentic Sri Lankan curries at the Curry Bowl and delectable sharing plates at Bok to ice cold Aperol Spritzes at Drift.
The fun is not confined to Obonjan’s shores either: yachts are on hand to whisk guests on excursions to nearby Kornati and Krka national parks, where waterfalls and historic ruins abound, whilst Game of Thrones fans can explore the ancient city of Šibenik, home to many of the show’s iconic filming locations.
Working with members of the original creative team behind the Eden Project in Cornwall, Obonjan has put in place sound ecological, social and business management practices to develop an efficient and low impact circular economy that will continually provide far-reaching benefits to the surrounding communities and ecology.
Deserted for a decade, this 'curated island destination' is set to offer summer-long creativity and wellness breaks with added party atmosphere.
Obonjan brings together everything you love in one beautiful natural setting. It's not strictly a festival, rather a destination party island where you can sleep under the stars and wake up to the sound of waves.
Designed with holistic wellbeing in mind, the whole point is to do what you want with your time on the island. Whether that's getting involved in a sunrise yoga session, dancing into the early hours, or exploring the underwater sculpture garden.
