Festive fancies: six gifts we’re hoping to unwrap this Christmas

1. The ultimate travel companion

The most vital item on any traveller’s list, a chic and hardwearing suitcase is the must-have for every globetrotter. It’s the Away Suitcase that’s caught our eye this year – arm candy seen on the likes of Karlie Kloss, Suki Waterhouse and Margot Robbie. Born in New York, this exceedingly stylish brand has recently launched in the UK (hurray!) meaning that sleek lines, unbreakable shells, built-in USB chargers are accessible to us all. We’re particularly excited about its new collaboration with jet-setting photographer, Gray Malin, which brings us new shades of Coral, Ocean Blue, and Alpine White, plus a special lining printed with one of Malin’s own photographs.

One in every colour, please.

2. The all-important swimsuit

It’s time to face the facts, it’s all about le visage these days, (cue Sarah & Sebastian‘s earrings and Open House’s bracelet), and we’re jumping on the bandwagon with our swimwear pick, courtesy of the hugely talented Mara Hoffman.

All we need now is the backdrop to match. Here’s looking at Cape Weligama‘s cliff-top crescent moon pool…

3. The ‘if you didn’t snap it, did it even happen?‘ gadget

The holiday Instagram, uploaded strategically to guarantee maximum jealously as the rest of us scroll sadly through our feeds on a chilly commute home… Expect beach-tousled hair, swaying palm fronds, a soft golden glow and a candid expression that implies no knowledge of the camera. Of course, the reality is an entirely different beast; one that requires extensive prep, multiple angles and a long-suffering snap-happy friend, plus a little help from Olloclip’s new Core Lens set. This nifty gadget is on our list thanks to out-of-this-world image quality and a range of new improved optics, including fisheye, Super-Wide and Macro 15x lenses.

Bring on the insta-envy.

4. The plane pal

For those of you blessed with the (highly irritating) ability to fall asleep anywhere, please stop reading here. For the rest of us, we’d suggest putting Holistic Silk’s Classic Eye Mask on the wishlist for the best possible chance of shut-eye on those long haul flights. It’s pretty hard to look glamorous while sleeping on a plane, particularly if you’re the type to slump onto your neighbour’s unsuspecting shoulder, but these lavender-filled beauties may just make it possible.

5. The holiday read

One for the poolside (or more likely the sleepless flight…), we’ve lined up Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist as our literary pick this year. Already gracing most ‘best travel book’ lists and accredited with changing the lives of its readers, this magical tale is said to enthrall and enchant as Santiago, an Andalusian shepherd boy, journeys from his hometown in Spain in search of the fateful alchemist.

6. The miracle cream

No traveller’s wishlist is complete without the all important miracle cream, imperative for stepping off the place with that longed-for well rested glow. We tend to find ourselves travelling quite a bit (lucky us) and have therefore had the chance to test out quite a few, and found that nothing does it quite like Aesop’s Facial Barrier Cream. Eight hours on a plane, buffeted by relentless AC, can dehydrate like nothing else, but this intensely nourishing and richly emollient (hello, hydration buzz words!) magic potion is your get out of jail free card.
