Hotel Castello di Reschio reopens for a dazzling second season

Set in the heart of the Umbrian countryside, amongst lush rolling hills and verdant valleys, Reschio is a 3,700-acre ancient pastoral estate with a fascinating story to tell. For over two decades, in-the-know visitors have been staying at the estate’s exquisitely restored private houses, whilst May 2021 saw the much-anticipated launch of the award-winning Hotel Castello di Reschio.

Following a sell-out first season, on 25th March 2022, the reimagined tenth-century castle turned elegant boutique hotel will open its doors once again under the helm of the Bolza family and Florian Schaible, the Master of the Household with new General Manager, Maria Ghebresellasie.  Over the past few months, Reschio has been working fervently behind the scenes to ensure this year is even more magical than the last, with several new introductions awaiting.

A new three-hour foraging workshop with Reschio’s resident forager will immerse you in the bountiful wilderness the estate has to offer, while learning about the healing and nutritional properties of local plant life. Learn how to turn your foraged ingredients into infused, macerated essential oils; try your hand at making natural calligraphy inks; or take your edible ingredients to Reschio’s cookery school to learn the art of Italian cuisine.

The launch of the new  Bottega di Reschio shop, means you can now take a taste of Reschio home with you, from home-grown produce including olive oil, fine wines and golden honey, to some of the finest garments in Italy, personally sourced by Count Benedikt and Donna Nencia, from Venetian silk slippers and hand-woven Florentine hats to sumptuous linen shawls.

Offering total peace and tranquillity, this summer Reschio will unveil a brand new, utterly secluded Lake Cabin perched on the edge of one of Reschio’s enchanting glassy lakes. Exclusively take over the Lake Cabin for half or full day and spend the day wild swimming or paddle-boarding in the natural waters, enjoying a delicious picnic spread, or simply curled up with a book on the terrace. Over at the Teatro Equestro, from summer 2022, a brand new magical open-air cinema will show screenings of Italian masterpieces and international classics under twinkling starlight alongside the warm, summer night breeze – dreamy.

A work of art, precision and passion by Count Benedikt Bolza and Donna Nencia, Hotel Castello di Reschio is an exquisitely reimagined 36-room hotel at the heart of Umbria’s exclusive Reschio Estate. Together, the pair have effortlessly curated a whimsical Italian style, where old meets new in the most natural of ways. Epicureans are spoilt for choice at Reschio, as both Ristorante Al Castello and Ristorante Alle Scuderie re-open this season with all-new seasonal menus, packed full of produce straight from the estate’s own organic kitchen garden, forests, olive groves, beehives, and vineyards.

In the depths of the hotel’s ancient-vaulted wine cellars, The Bathhouse is an otherworldly retreat encompassing a cavernous salt-water Roman Bath, hammam, sauna and treatment room, where innovative treatments celebrate the healing powers of nature. The pièce de resistance is the Private Room, complete with a roaring fireplace, two ‘conversation baths’, two massage beds for tailor-made treatments, a tepidarium carved into an ancient cave and steam room.

Reschio is home to some of Italy’s most skilled dressage horses, and guests can visit the Equestrian Centre for lessons, wild hacks, and evening performances to learn more about these magnificent creatures. Those wanting to discover more of this enchanting estate can explore the lush forests on hiking or cycling trails, join the estate’s game keeper for a spot of wildlife watching, or head out for truffle hunting.
