Kokomo Private Island, Fiji
Located in the pristine Kadavu Archipelago in Fiji, Kokomo Private Island is a sanctuary envisioned by the late Australian property developer and philanthropist Lang Walker, whose legacy continues to shape the resort’s evolution. First discovered by Walker as an untouched 140-acre island fringed by the Great Astrolabe Reef – one of the world’s largest barrier reefs – Kokomo was thoughtfully transformed into a globally celebrated private retreat, grounded in sustainability, conservation and a deep respect for Fijian culture.
Since opening in 2017, Kokomo has established itself as one of the South Pacific’s most refined and authentic private island experiences. Now entering a new chapter under the leadership of General Manager Karen Merrick, the resort continues to build on its founding vision while enhancing its offering for a new generation of travellers.
Kokomo features just 21 Beachfront Villas, each set within lush tropical gardens with direct beach access and private infinity pools, alongside five expansive Residences set on the hillside. Ranging from one to six bedrooms, these Residences offer seamless indoor–outdoor living, panoramic ocean views and personalised service, including dedicated butlers, catering to couples, families and multi-generational groups alike.
Sustainability lies at the heart of Kokomo’s philosophy. A 5.5-acre organic farm supplies fresh produce to the island’s restaurants, complemented by a dock-to-dish approach to seafood. Conservation initiatives include coral propagation, reef restoration, manta ray research and mangrove reforestation, with guests invited to engage in hands-on experiences such as marine conservation programmes and environmental activities.
Dining on the island is shaped by seasonality and provenance, with three distinct venues offering a diverse culinary journey. Menus celebrate local ingredients and global influences, from relaxed beachfront dining to intimate overwater experiences, all supported by an extensive wine collection featuring rare and curated selections.
Encircled by vibrant marine life, Kokomo offers exceptional access to snorkelling and diving within the Great Astrolabe Reef, alongside sailing, fishing and bespoke boating excursions. On land, guests can explore nature trails, participate in cultural workshops or enjoy a variety of leisure activities, with dedicated spaces and programmes designed for children and teens.
Wellness at Kokomo is inspired by the island’s natural rhythms, with a tranquil spa sanctuary offering holistic treatments rooted in traditional Fijian healing at The Yaukuve Spa Sanctuary, alongside yoga and personalised wellbeing experiences designed to restore balance and connection.
As Kokomo approaches its 10th anniversary, the resort continues to evolve, with new developments planned for 2026, further enhancing its position as one of the world’s leading private island destinations.
