With the festive season around the corner, BIRD of Mouth casts its mind enviously to those lucky enough to be spending Christmas at Song Saa Private Island resort in Cambodia, where a host of festive offerings are waiting to drive away the English winter blues. On Christmas Eve, celebratory cocktails and flavoursome hors d’ouevres will get taste buds watering, followed by pan-roasted Cambodian barracuda fillet with saffron, melt-in-the-mouth oven-roasted beef tenderloin and a sweet white chocolate bavarois. In turn, Christmas morning will see a spectacular brunch spread, incorporating traditional favourites as well as seasonal specials, such as house-cured gravadlax eggs royale, sweet eggnog banana pancakes with amber rum syrup and house-made sausages infused with festive spices. Christmas dinner will see Vista restaurant filled with delectable dishes, as live cooking stations to create a buffet experience to remember, surrounded by panoramic ocean views.

On the big day itself, Song Saa ensures that Santa is not deterred by the vast expanse of surrounding pristine oceans, with a traditional Cambodian fishing boat replacing Santa’s sleigh. Tropical treasure hunts will lead children on a winding path across the island, whilst local dance performance troupe Cambodian Living Arts will be spreading the Christmas cheer with their interpretive Apsara dance and the elaborate Golden Mermaid dance.

New Year’s Eve hails the arrival of legendary Phare Circus, ready to wow guests with their astonishing acrobatics, emotion, enthusiasm and talent. Guests will be initiated into Cambodia’s fascinating historical, folk and modern stories through a clever combination of theatre, music, dance and awe-inspiring twists and tumbles. The jewel in Song Saa’s culinary crown will come on New Year’s Eve, with hors d’ouevres and sundowner cocktails to celebrate the final sunset of 2015, followed by an opulent multi-course gala dinner paired with specially-selected wines. Afterwards, a seafood ice bar will be set up on the beach beneath the spectacular firework display to see guests into the New Year in style.
