Escaping the January blues

As we gaze into the yawning abyss of 2016, the New Year workload ramps up and our dry January pledges look increasingly untenable, there’s really only one thing for it: run away.

Luckily, Le Grand Bellevue has just the solution. Frequented by A-list names such as Nick Grimshaw, Kelly Hoppen and Laura Bailey, this glamorous hotel offers the dream alpine getaway.

Just a short flight – and absurdly picturesque train ride – from London, Gstaad has all the hallmarks of the perfect winter escape. The snow-dusted mountains offer hundreds of kilometres of pristine piste, the chocolate box town is bedecked in twinkling lights and perhaps best of all – there’s some serious fun to be had…

Introducing bouquet: the newest arrival to this sleepy town and already making waves. This ‘rock’n’roll luxe’ nightclub has a dark and decadent style, with kilim-covered sofas and velvet banquette seating. Resident Parisian DJ GMAC mans the decks, with sultry lounge music turning to exciting dance tunes as the evening wears on. Moet & Chandon’s new Nectar Imperial Rose champagne is available served on ice alongside Krug and a playful cocktail list. After dancing the night away, grumbling tummies can chow down on Croque Monsieur and cake du jour. The club even offers a Master Cleanse – although in this case it’s a zingy sake cocktail rather than a sadistic January diet plan.

bouquet opened with a wild launch party on Christmas Day – and our spies tell us that a number of A-List actors and musicians were amongst the glamorous guests spotted soaking up the atmosphere. Since then – and helped along by a New Year’s Eve extravaganza that will be talked about for many seasons to come – the club has firmly established itself as the place for Gstaad’s bright young things to see and be seen, tipped as the ultimate seasonal hotspot by the FT How to Spend It.

As dawn arrives, Gstaad’s hedonists can rest their heads in one of Le Grand Bellevue’s 57 sumptuous rooms and suites, before slipping down to the cavernous 3000 sqm Le Grand Spa for some serious pampering.
