A uniquely English seaside hotel from boutique hotel group GuestHouse, opening spring 2023
Continuing their mission to bring happy hotels to historic buildings on some of Britain’s most desirable streets, spring 2023 will see the boutique hospitality group GuestHouse open the doors to the third property in their portfolio in one of the UK’s sunniest seaside towns, Margate.
Traditionally a holiday destination for Londoners drawn to its sandy beaches, No.42 in Margate will embrace all the nostalgia that we know and love from this sunny seaside town. Housed within a Victorian beauty of a beachfront building and comfortably poised above the main swathe of glittering sands, No.42 is perfectly placed at the heart of this arty, fun-filled town, and will be ready and waiting to welcome you for a long summer season and beyond beside the seaside.
Stepping inside the elegant, arcaded frontage of No.42, guests will discover a space with 21 bedrooms, a restaurant, rooftop, and spa where the town’s open love of uniquely English quirks will be felt all around. Less than 1.5 hours London by train and boasting more sunlight hours than any other UK seaside destination, it is unsurprising that Margate has captured the hearts and minds of artists, holidaymakers, and now GuestHouse.
Since the 18th Century Margate has offered a home to eccentric English traditions. From iconic Dreamland and its listed rollercoaster and menagerie cages to the unexplained shell grotto, and uniquely British beachside activities abound. Drawing inspiration from these iconic sights, at No.42 GuestHouse’s team will realise interiors which playfully draw from the motifs and seaside character of the town to create a sense of nostalgia through unexpected moments and subtle references that embrace Margate’s quirky and playful nature. Spaces will be warm, inviting, and spirited, steering away from formality and pretention and embracing Margate’s humble backgrounds, lively social scene and distinctive character.
Chalky whites, moody greens and golden yellow tones will form the basis for the colour palette throughout the new hotel, accented and contrasted with hints of pink and red and providing a nod to the land and seascapes among which No.42 sits. Texture and movement associated with the sea will feature in the furniture, fixtures, and surface finishes. As is the GuestHouse way, the help of regional makers and community artists will be enlisted in celebration of local talent and Margate’s abundant creative forces.
The opening of No.42 marks the latest steps in GuestHouse’s exciting expansion journey. With a fourth site set to open in eclectic Brighton in late 2023, GuestHouse will continue to evolve to encompass shared values and commitments to you and all its guests.
