BIRD is delighted to announce its appointment to represent famed heritage hotel, Pulitzer Amsterdam. Overlooking two of the city’s most picturesque canals, Prinsengracht and Keizersgracht, and spanning twenty-five connecting 17th and 18th century canal houses, Pulitzer holds a prime location in the heart of Amsterdam’s UNESCO world heritage city centre. Inspired by Amsterdam’s rich history of the Golden Age to the mid-century, décor throughout blends modern and traditional influences with quintessential Dutch elegance and style, ensuring you are instantly immersed in the city’s diverse culture.
A neighbourhood in its own right
Thoughtfully reimagined in 2016 by Lore Group’s Creative Director, Jacu Strauss, design details throughout each of Pulitzer’s 225 rooms and suites are inspired by residents of the past four centuries from artists and antiques collectors to writers and musicians. A neighbourhood in its own right, inside you will discover a grand entrance and lobby, an unexpectedly expansive central garden for al fresco drinks and dining, a modern Dutch restaurant with canal-side terrace, an Art-Deco bar celebrating age-old glamour and a host of meeting and celebration spaces of all sizes. Daily history tours will transport you through the ages, with eclectic tales of the prosperous trade merchants and flamboyant Dutch aristocracy who would once have paced the corridors.
Unparalleled access
Centrally located in the city’s buzzy Nine Streets neighbourhood, many of Amsterdam’s most notable finds are on the hotel’s doorstep. From the Rijksmuseum to Stedelijk Museum, the Van Gogh Museum and the Anne Frank House to name a few.
New for 2023, the hotel has launched an exclusive partnership with the Rijksmuseum to coincide with the largest exhibition of works by Johannes Vermeer ever to be displayed. To fully immerse yourself in the world of the great Dutch artist, you have the opportunity to book the Vermeer Package, with exclusive tickets allowing you to skip the queues and gain unlimited exhibition access during your stay. With the colour palettes found in each of Pulitzer’s unique rooms and suites taking inspiration from Vermeer’s masterpieces and in-room amenities inspired by The Girl with a Pearl Earring, this exclusive package promises a sensorially-rich stay.
Additional experiences on offer include private and group canal boat tours aboard one of Pulitzer’s two characterful vessels, not to be missed in a city synonymous with canals. If you’d prefer to pick up the pace, running tours with Hotel Manager, Caroline van Kessel, shows the city’s best kept secrets through the eyes of an Amsterdammer.
No two rooms the same
Owing to its unique layout and rich past influences, at Pulitzer no two rooms are the same yet each embody quintessential Dutch spirit and style. Guestrooms carefully combine an eclectic mix of finishes, designs and details to complement their individual charm. It is in the suites however where storytelling is brought to life. Steeped in history, Pulitzer’s standout suites are inspired by and aptly named after their imagined pasts. The Book Collector’s Suite comes complete with private library featuring a dramatic floor-to-ceiling wall of books, a tribute to founder Peter Pulitzer and the eponymous Pulitzer Prize. The Antique Collector’s Suite, with its impressive collection of Dutch antiques, includes a feature wall of antique mirrors in gilt frames. The Music Collector’s Suite is peppered with musical instruments and records whilst the Art Collector’s Suite is decorated with an array of works from the Pulitzer art collection, including a six-metre painting from Thierry Bruet.
Culinary creations
A favourite amongst inquisitive travellers and local tastemakers alike, Pulitzer’s elegant neighbourhood restaurant, Jansz., serves up locally sourced and modern Dutch cuisine. Seasonal menu highlights include eringi mushrooms paired with rich truffle, reypenaer cheese and egg yolk or venison accompanied by potato mousseline, caramelized onions and crisp croutons. At Pulitzer’s Bar, sip on classic cocktails like the Peperbael Paloma or the Rose Garden Margarita, each inspired by the illustrious past of the canal houses which surround. Hidden in the heart of the hotel, the expansive Pulitzer Garden offers courtyard garden views and an outdoor terrace for warm summer days.
