BIRD is delighted to announce its partnership with Teranka, a bohemian hideaway on the corner of Formentera, the smallest and most southerly island of the Balearics. Accessible only by boat, and perched amidst a canopy of pine trees, Teranka is moments from the island’s Migjorn coast; where poets, pirates and punks are rumoured to have found their spiritual homes, once upon a time. The property embodies the essence of its creative yet laid back roots, paying homage to Formentera’s effortless natural beauty and free-spirited identity.
Teranka’s location and ethos make it the perfect host for transformative retreats that have been diligently curated to flow with the momentum of the Balearic’s wildest but gentlest island. For the 2024 season, a new programme of visiting luminaries will take the helm, rotating on a weekly basis, they will lead sessions that will come into unison with daily group meditations and yoga and Pilates classes, available to all guests complimentary, as part of their stay.

For those looking for deeper elements of personalisation, the in-house team is available to develop bespoke retreat itineraries for specific goals and intentions. Under the name, Essence of Flow, the retreats drift with the energy of the island and offer activities such stargazing, sound baths and cathartic breathwork with revered practitioner and hypnotherapist, Annika Lefevvre while Life Coach, Matti Mahl will accompany guests through hikes and ice bath immersions. Ideal for private groups of friends, families, couples and solo travellers, itineraries are speckled with free time for guests to enjoy wild sea swimming, nomadic walks through fig tree forests, siestas between the pine tree-lined paths and nourishing the body with vibrant seasonal dishes.
For in-house guests and locals, a calendar of workshops is also set to be announced later in the season which will be led by local artisans.
To inspire moments of grounding throughout the day, the hotel has partnered with Chris Connors – wellbeing consultant and Founder of OPO, to create a meditation app and digital portal which offers three self-guided immersive sound meditations produced exclusively for Teranka. More content and inspiration can be found to enjoy in room with Chris’ personal recommended reads, nutritional advice, and wellbeing tips while on island.
On property, the 35 guest rooms and suites are spread across three handcrafted stone buildings – ‘Mar’ (sea), Tierra’ (earth) and ‘Cielo’ (sky), each awash with natural light and a colour palette to blend seamlessly into the landscape. There is also an extensive library of literature, with must reads such as The Old Man and the Sea or Mermaid 101, and art, curated by London native and Ibiza resident, Katrina Phillips. The collection celebrates work from female artists and creators as a nod to the divinely feminine essence and maternal lineage of Formentera and employs indigenous techniques and organic material.
Gastronomy showcases the best in fresh island fare and Chef Sergio Martínez and Chef José Doblas impassioned by cuisine enjoyed on their travels through the Balearics. Teranka Garden offers all day outdoor dining in a traditional finca setting with an outdoor kitchen and sand bar leading to an expansive terrace set in wildflower gardens. Upstairs, the Teranka Rooftop offers 360 panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea, the canopy of forests below and evenings begin with sundowners, tapas and seasonal crudo at this rooftop refuge, before heading down to the main restaurant for grilled pulpo, local red prawns and Iberian pork. To accompany, there is a curated calendar of live music with an eclectic rostra of hand pans, sound and jazz bands and visiting guest live DJ sets keeping to gentle vibrational flow of the island.
