BIRD is delighted to announce its partnership with The Malkai, an extraordinary journey across three epic tented camp locations in Oman. Launching in autumn 2026, The Malkai invites you to uncover the true soul of the Sultanate and experience a new era of luxury Omani hospitality.

The Malkai is the culmination of a decade-long dream, passed down through generations by one family, dedicated to protecting and sharing the natural beauty and heritage of their beloved homeland with the world.
In one extraordinary journey, The Malkai will offer unparalleled access to three remarkable locations: the coastal farmlands of Barkaa, near Muscat, the soaring Al Hajar mountains, and the sweeping dunes of Sharqiyah Sands.
This timeless Omani pilgrimage will showcase inspiring journeys between the three Malkai sites in a fully equipped Land Rover Defender, accompanied by your own dedicated Murshid (guide, friend and philosopher) for immersive four- to ten-night journeys.
Recognising the individuality of each guest, tranquillity and exhilarating experiences are mixed to taste. These include privileged access to an exclusive private island within the Al Dimaniyat archipelago, a protected nature reserve off the coast of Barkaa.

Every element of The Malkai is designed with deep respect for the land and communities around it. You’ll find biophilic design, locally sourced materials, and practices that minimise carbon impact while supporting biodiversity and livelihoods.
The Malkai’s evolution has been led by Pankaj Khimji, a respected figure in Omani business, politics and society, along with his three children, as a legacy project rooted in local cultures and infused with the Omani spirit of karam (generosity).
Innovative design rooted in Omani tradition
The master planning and architecture are crafted by Unscripted Design, a Singapore-based studio known for blending innovation with cultural integrity. Inspired by Omani heritage yet shaped for modern explorers, The Malkai reflects both timeless traditions and contemporary luxury.

Immersive landscapes with sensory rewards
Landscapes have been imagined by the award-winning Marcus Barnett Studio, weaving together Omani themes of water, geometry and agriculture. As you wander the grounds, you’ll encounter lime, mango and guava trees, fragrant blossoms, and native species that sustain biodiversity. In Barkaa, you’ll even see how date palms are cultivated and harvested, a living link to Oman’s agricultural heritage.
At each location, 15 tented Pavilion Suites draw inspiration from bayt al-sha’ar – the traditional Bedouin tents of Oman. Your Pavilion, spanning 85 sqm, connects seamlessly with the surrounding landscape while offering every modern comfort. Natural materials such as limestone, Omani marble and sustainably sourced woods echo the hues and textures of the land.
Architectural details draw from Oman’s forts, falaj water systems, wind towers and carved mashrabiya screens – enriching your stay with subtle layers of history and meaning.

Invitations to experience the unexpected
The Malkai offers transformative journeys through Oman’s heritage, culture and diverse natural beauty. Each journey fosters discovery, curiosity, courage and a sense of adventure. Personalised itineraries feature outdoor pursuits such as trekking, stargazing, and sailing, allowing guests to explore wildlife-rich landscapes, hike sweeping mountain ranges and discover ancient forts – with ample time for relaxation.
Omani dining, featuring organic, seasonal ingredients
The Malkai’s farm-to-fork dining philosophy favours seasonal organic ingredients, home-grown, or locally sourced from trusted farmers. raditional Omani dishes are reimagined, from seafood soups to slow-cooked lamb, crisp flatbreads and delicately spiced rice. Meals are infused with Limu Omani, the sun-dried lime that brings a signature zest to Omani cooking.
Holistic wellness rooted in nature and adventure
The Malkai is woven into every moment. Between adventures, you can restore yourself with therapies using rose water, incense and frankincense, practised in the privacy of your Pavilion. Swimming pools, open-air yoga, juice bars and trails for running or meditation connect you back to body and soul.
