This autumn, from 7th – 9th October, Teranka will welcome three emerging and amateur writers for ANCHORED, the inaugural edition of the Sea Library Writers’ Residency.
An extension of Teranka’s Sea Library cultural programme, ANCHORED reflects the hotel’s ongoing commitment to literature, art, music and the Mediterranean imagination. Over three days, the island will become both studio and subject: a place to slow down, observe, write and exchange ideas, surrounded by the landscape and rhythms of Formentera.
The residency has been designed to balance protected periods of individual writing with opportunities for creative exchange and exploration. Guests will be invited to spend time writing and reading in the Sea Library, walking through the island’s pine forests and along the coast, and immersing themselves in the natural environment that has long inspired artists and writers.
A special introduction to the Sea Library will also be led by its originator, Katrina Phillips, offering residents the opportunity to discover the thinking and stories behind Teranka’s distinctive collection.
The residency will also bring together a group of writers and publishing professionals for an intimate three-hour conversation with the selected residents. Joining the programme will be writer Pedro Simón, publisher and literary coach Pedro Martín-Caro, and long-time journalist and Balearics resident Daniela Agnelli. Rather than a traditional masterclass, the session will be conceived as an open and informal exchange, exploring their personal experiences of the industry, developing and structuring ideas, the realities of publishing and the creative life.
It will be an opportunity for the residents to ask questions, share ideas and hear first-hand stories from people who have built careers across writing, journalism and publishing. ANCHORED is open to writers working across fiction, non-fiction, poetry, essays, memoir, journalism and hybrid forms.
Teranka is particularly interested in hearing from voices exploring themes that sit at the heart of the Sea Library and the wider spirit of the island: nature and landscape, the sea, creativity, music, memory, human connection, place and belonging, slowness and observation.
The residency is ultimately about creating the conditions for new ideas to emerge – stepping away from the noise of everyday life and allowing a different pace to take over. For three days, Formentera becomes a place to look more closely, listen more carefully and simply make time to write.
