Kamalaya
Koh Samui
Located on the southern coast of Koh Samui in the Gulf of Thailand, Kamalaya remains an expression of its visionary founders, John and Karina Stewart, who have been quietly trailblazing to create a destination which facilitates journeys to promote self-discovery and transformation. Inspired by the 16 years John spent devoted to spiritual studies in a Himalayan community and Karina’s 22 years practicing Traditional Chinese Medicine, Kamalaya harnesses ancient Eastern healing with Western medical research and the powers of nature and local tradition.
Since its opening in 2005, Kamalaya has successfully positioned itself as a global leader in the wellness space offering in-depth programmes from Comprehensive Detox, Ideal Weight and Optimal Fitness to Enriched Gut, Sleep Enhancement & Embracing Change. Its diverse range of treatments incorporate naturopathy, Traditional Chinese medicine, Ayurveda, nutrition, homeopathy and functional medicine, as well as an extensive daily programme of holistic activities, to offer an interconnected approach to health that has become legendary for its life-enhancing results.
Kamalaya is now home to 60 certified wellness professionals, with a team that is in a league of their own and includes Thai therapists, registered nurses, TCM doctors, Ayurvedic specialists, naturopaths, local healers, meditation, and life enhancement mentors, nutritionists, qualified fitness instructors and spiritual mentors who assist guests in their journey back to health. The resort also hosts year-round retreats and workshops, led by an extensive selection of visiting teachers, healers and practitioners.
Located amidst lush tropical vegetation, ancient boulders, cascading streams, and 1.5 miles of private beach, Kamalaya’s natural setting is an integral part of the guest experience. The wellness retreat is centred around a monk’s cave that once served Buddhist monks as a place of meditation and spiritual retreat.
Other facilities include a state-of-the-art diagnostic centre, two swimming pools including a 25-metre lap pool, a three-storey fitness emporium and two restaurants. Food at Kamalaya is delicious, mostly plant-based and free from additives and preservatives; resident chefs use gentle cooking methods to preserve the wealth of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients that provide pure sources of natural medicine, vital for optimal health.
