Pulitzer
Amsterdam
Overlooking two of the city’s most picturesque canals, Prinsengracht and Keizersgracht, and spanning twenty-five connecting 17th and 18th century canal houses, famed heritage hotel Pulitzer holds a prime location in the heart of Amsterdam’s UNESCO world heritage city centre. Inspired by Amsterdam’s rich history of the Golden Age to the mid-century, décor throughout blends modern and traditional influences with quintessential Dutch elegance and style, ensuring guests are instantly immersed in the city’s diverse culture.
A neighbourhood in its own right
Thoughtfully reimagined in 2016 by Lore Group’s Creative Director, Jacu Strauss, design details throughout each of Pulitzer’s 223 rooms and suites are inspired by residents of the past four centuries from artists and antique collectors to writers and musicians. A neighbourhood in its own right, inside guests can discover a grand entrance and lobby, an unexpectedly expansive central garden for al fresco drinks and dining, a modern Dutch restaurant with canal-side terrace, an Art-Deco bar celebrating age-old glamour, and a host of meeting and celebration spaces of all sizes. Daily history tours transport guests through the ages, regaling listeners-in with eclectic tales of the prosperous trade merchants and flamboyant Dutch aristocracy who would once have paced the corridors.
Additional experiences on offer include private and group canal boat tours aboard one of Pulitzer’s two characterful vessels, not to be missed in a city synonymous with canals. For those preferring to pick up the pace, running tours with Hotel Manager, Caroline van Kessel, show the city’s best kept secrets through the eyes of an Amsterdammer.
No two rooms are the same
Owing to its unique layout and rich past influences, at Pulitzer no two rooms are the same yet each embodies quintessential Dutch spirit and style. Guestrooms carefully combine an eclectic mix of finishes, designs, and details to complement their charm. It is in the suites however where storytelling is brought to life. Steeped in history, Pulitzer’s standout suites are inspired by and aptly named after their imagined pasts. Completing its Collector’s Suites series, 2024 saw the opening of the bright The Flower Collector’s Suite which reimagines a 19th-century tulip-trader’s home, paying homage to the city’s intertwined history with the flower, The Porcelain Collector’s Suite overlooking the canal with walls lined by delicate Delftware, and the family-friendly, historically inspired The Merchant Suite filled with Dutch art.
Led by Creative Director Jacu Strauss, a fusion of beauty and design trickles across the Pulitzer’s The Beauty House. Over three floors, each embodying its own identity, the expansive treatment menu is in partnership with renowned brands 111SKIN and Chāmpo. Treatments include both traditional and high-tech including aromatherapy massages, cryotherapy, reflexology, non-surgical face lifts and blow-dries – each highly personalised with a pre-consultation. With a design that favours views of Pulitzer’s gardens and the nine-streets neighbourhood on opposing ends, there’s no better spot to sip a glass of champagne and unwind.
Culinary creations
A favourite amongst inquisitive travellers and local tastemakers alike, Pulitzer’s elegant neighbourhood restaurant, Jansz., serves locally sourced and modern Dutch cuisine. At Pulitzer’s Bar, guests can sink into fireside armchairs and sip on classic or specialised cocktails, each inspired by the illustrious past of the canal houses which surround them. Hidden in the heart of the hotel, the expansive Pulitzer Garden offers courtyard garden views and an outdoor terrace for warm summer days.
Familial fancies
Not simply the reserve of couples and business travellers, Pulitzer’s family-focused offerings ensure even the littlest guests are well looked after during their stay. From personalized welcome treats, discovery passports and travel diaries to record their Amsterdam adventures, to a special Treasure Hunt and a series of Pulitzer Bedtime Stories, the VIK (Very Important Kids) programme ensures the youngest of guests feel as at home during their stay as their parents. At Jansz., family Sundays allow elevated yet relaxed dining for the whole family with a team of nannies on hand between courses with creative out-of-sight distractions.
